Modeling a Floating Ship - Introduction to 3D Modelling

My Low Poly Model
3DS Max

Utilising basic primitives, I blocked out the shapes within my concept. I then deformed them to create my desired forms, Utilising basic planes to add flat details like railings and rope - both which could be detailed / rendered as such through texture work and the use of transparency. (Something which I later found was unsupported by Google Earth).

UVW Unwrapping
3DS Max

As I was going to texture the model by hand, on the flat UVW I create, it was important to generate clean UVWs with effectively places seams. Going forward, for such a model it would be efficient to mirror textures on such a basic model to lower file size.

Geo-Locating my .KMZ
Google Earth

Given my model was designed to 'fly', it was little effort to suitably place my model onto Google Earth's Mt. Everest terrain. I was able to capture some basic shots of my model but felt somewhat let down by the poor quality of the real-time render engine featured within Google Maps.
