Struggling Creative and the Pencil of Doom.

Ryan Hamill's illustration is drawing and design heavy - utilising on heavy characterisation. He highlighted his desire to work in printed mediums - for their restriction in editing and finalised product, opposed to digital. I also believe that the mediums compliment his stylistic approach - fleshing out his refined, clean line-work or block strokes with a grain of texture.

A graphical approach to illustration is where Hamill's focus is. He is keen to describe his focus on the 'character' and humour within his illustration. His work - whilst printed - can be closely related to modern digital, vector based, graphics. This relates keenly to his interest in animation - where this style is commonly employed trough its ability to tween and scale - as well as its readability when animated.

How are you?

Hamill's line-work creates 'bubbly' forms through smooth curves and a resistance to straight edge. His use of such features to convey character and emotion can be referred to Pendleton Ward's work - someone he describes as a strong influence, alongside his works such as 'Adventure Time' and 'Bravest Warriors'.
