Tom Pigeon
Flotsam
Tom Pigeon's brand and styling is vigorously maintained throughout their products with a clear identity in terms of colour, styling, minimal and modernist themes. This consistency comes partly from founding principles of the company - "We create simple objects that people enjoy". An interesting feature of their brand consistency is its ability to function Tom Pigeons vastly multi-disciplinary business model - featuring jewellery, print, stationary, home and decoration products.
Kirsty Thomas, co-director of Tom Pigeon, describes her tendency to "get bored easily" as the origin of the companies multi-disciplinary model. Her varied career prior to establishing the company could enforce her ability to cross mediums. Her exploration within the fields of streetwear and graphic design can be evidenced within Tom Pigeons graphical but stylish appeal as well as very modernist, functional qualities - contrasted by a sense of aesthetic priorities.
Whilst Tom Pigeon's work is vastly distant from my creative process and visual style the powerful, graphical nature of their successful designs could be referred to. Their studio environment and disciplinary variety are also inspiring aspects - highlighting an approach to 'the design firm' that is new to me - based more on a consistent and extremely refined visual style and identity across multiple mediums - opposed to a variable approach to aesthetic based on client requirements etc.
