My Own Work: Comic Illustration
Comic Illustration Fun
In Photoshop CC.
Robert Sammelin and Richard Lyons were key influences on this practice piece. Whilst I think the piece was successful in terms of colour, lighting and a sense of expression it could have been improved in terms of line rendering and a more encompassed approach to detailing.
Richard Lyons

Staples of Richard Lyons style are his use of hard, expressive line (referable to comic art) and muted, de-saturated colour. As a character focused concept artist his work is exceptionally functional whilst stylistically expressive - with his work being keenly recognisable.
Robert Sammelin
The New York Times - Swatted
Whilst still purposeful - Robert Sammelin is more loose with his line when compared to the very expressive - almost geometric line of Richard Lyons. Both artists utilise gradient and shade to add dimension to their works but Robert Sammelin could be described to be less reliant on this via his more variable and encompassing use of line.
